Iraq reached an agreement in principle with Turkmenistan for natural gas imports. In a written statement made by Iraqi Oil Minister Deputy Responsible for Gas Affairs, İzzet Sabır, it was stated that an agreement was reached in principle with Turkmenistan for Iraq’s natural gas imports.
In his statement, Sabır informed that a high-level Iraqi delegation held meetings in Turkmenistan and said, “The Iraqi government attaches importance to developing cooperation with friendly country Turkmenistan in the field of natural gas. An agreement was made in principle on gas imports from Turkmenistan to meet Iraq’s electricity needs.”
Noting that the agreement will be announced with a joint memorandum of understanding in the future, Sabır stated that the memorandum of understanding between the two countries will be signed before the end of the year. According to the Iraqi news agency INA, Iraq imported more than 9 billion cubic meters of gas from Iran in 2022.
