The death toll resulting from heavy rains and flooding in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul has now reached 31. As flooding continues to impact Rio Grande do Sul, Governor Eduardo Leite provided an update, stating, “Regrettably, we have confirmed the discovery of the bodies of an additional 4 individuals.” He further announced that the loss of life in this flood disaster has risen to 31.
Governor Leite also emphasized the ongoing need for rescues, saying, “Many individuals are still stranded on the rooftops of their homes and require assistance.” He noted that hundreds of rescue personnel, along with police and volunteers, are actively engaged in efforts to access the flood-affected areas within the state, where a state of emergency has been declared. The flooding has affected over 52,000 residents and impacted 70 towns in the state, resulting in over 5,300 people being displaced from their homes.
