Kenyan President William Ruto announced that Ukraine will open a grain center in Mombasa Port in order to solve the food problem in the east of Africa.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ruto met in New York during the 78th United Nations (UN) General Assembly. In his statement on the X social media platform, Ruto stated that Zelenskiy promised to establish a grain center in Mombasa Port to meet the urgent food needs in the east of Africa.
Ruto also expressed his country’s support for a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine War to alleviate the suffering and stop the destruction. 25 countries in Africa import more than a third of their wheat imports from Russia and Ukraine every year.
African countries, which have been going through a difficult time due to rising food prices since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine War, launched an initiative to make peace between the two countries. Chairman of the African Union Commission, Musa Faki Muhammed, stated that he regretted the suspension of the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement and called on the parties to continue the agreement.
