Paramount and Apple have recently released the highly anticipated second trailer for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” directed by Martin Scorsese. The film features a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, making it one of the most talked-about movies of the year.
Following Scorsese’s 2019 film “The Irishman,” “Killers of the Flower Moon” marks his return to narrative filmmaking. This Apple Original film is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on October 20, followed by streaming availability on Apple TV+.
Based on David Grann’s non-fiction novel of the same name, the story delves into the disturbing series of murders targeting the Osage people in Oklahoma during the 1920s. Scorsese’s adaptation, alongside Grann’s book, explores the romantic relationship between Enerest Burkhart (DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Gladstone), intertwined with the immense wealth of a Native American nation.
The official synopsis describes the film as an epic western crime saga set at the turn of the 20th century when the discovery of oil brought unimaginable fortune to the Osage Nation. However, the newfound wealth attracted opportunistic outsiders who resorted to manipulation, extortion, and eventually murder. Blending real love and unspeakable betrayal, “Killers of the Flower Moon” brings a true story to life.
In addition to the lead cast, the film features Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, Brendan Fraser, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Louis Cancelmi, Tatanka Means, Michael Abbot Jr., Pat Healy, Scott Shepard, Jason Isbell, and Sturgill Simpson.
Having premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the film received critical acclaim. Variety film critic Peter Debruge described it as a “meaty but demanding true-crime saga,” while Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis hailed it as an instant Oscar contender, particularly praising Lily Gladstone’s uncompromising portrayal.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is a collaboration between Paramount, Apple, Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions, and Appian Way. Alongside Scorsese as producer, the team includes Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Daniel Lupi. Executive producers include Leonardo DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Sommer, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer, and Niels Juul.
With its gripping storyline, stellar cast, and Scorsese’s masterful direction, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is poised to captivate audiences as it brings an extraordinary chapter of history to the big and small screens alike.
