Wallace announced last month that he would step down in a cabinet reshuffle. Sunak said Wallace had held “the toughest posts in government” and left “with gratitude and respect”. Having served as a minister for five consecutive terms, Wallace was first appointed as government spokesman by David Cameron in 2014.

Wallace later served as Minister for Northern Ireland, Minister for Security and, since July 2019, Minister for Defense.
