KBR is seeking an ENGINEERING INTERN to support our SPACE SUIT DESIGN TEAM for KBR’s Science and Space division. 

The ENGINEERING INTERN will participate in various learning opportunities designed to expose students to multiple disciplines in the following areas ranging from: Systems Engineering & Integration, Spacesuit Design and Development, Spacesuit Manufacturing, Materials research and Test Rig design and manufacture. At the end of the internship, the student will present the results of their cumulative internship project to the engineering management team. Interns will be supported by key engineering staff and work will be performed under the supervision of experience and senior staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the team with the design and development of spacesuit components including structural softgoods and hardgoods.
  • Assists the team in the design and development of test rigs to be used for ground or flight testing.
  • Assists the team in conducting experimental tests or analysis on models or prototypes or aerospace systems or equipment
  • Observes and participates in testing of models, prototypes, subassemblies, or production assemblies to study and evaluate operational characteristics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s level degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, materials science, industrial engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Must have acquired at minimum sophomore or higher academic standing by the start of the internship is preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and SolidWorks

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Some entry level experience and passion in mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis, 3D CAD design (Solidworks, Creo, or similar) is desired.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and engineering testing in a laboratory environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with advanced materials science is a benefit.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Exhibits application of responsible judgment, including for safety as well as for the planning and execution of projects
  • Ability to manage multiple task and projects effectively, and routinely interact with cross-functional groups
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Good interpersonal skills
